Start before you brew

Choose fresh specialty coffee and grind just before brewing. Store beans in an airtight container away from heat, light and moisture. Filtered water and clean equipment help the coffee’s own character come through.

Match the grind to the method

The guide compares grinds for French press, pour-over, automatic drip and espresso. Use these as a starting point, then experiment with small changes to find the cup you enjoy.

Measure for consistency

A scale makes it easier to repeat a good brew. The guide includes coffee-to-water ratios for several brewing methods and explains how measuring water by weight can simplify your routine.

Make it your own

Your preferred coffee strength is personal. Keep track of the coffee, water and grind you use, and adjust thoughtfully. Brewing, like roasting, should reveal the flavors already present in the bean.
